Opposition, Intent, and Development…

1. Is the opposition for oneself, or for others?

2. Is the opposition for oneself, or for one’s family?

3. Is the opposition for oneself, or for society?

4. Is the opposition for oneself, or for the village?

5. Is the opposition for oneself, or for the country?

6. Is the opposition for oneself, or for the world?

7. Is the opposition for development, or against development itself?

The true intent behind any opposition becomes evident in the answers to the questions above. Opposition aimed against development leads to backwardness. Conversely, opposition undertaken to facilitate development—or to ensure it takes place—leads to progress. Therefore, the underlying intent must be enlightened.

The scope of this intent must be broad; it must not be narrow or parochial. Narrow-minded thinking results in opposition to development, whereas broad-minded thinking results in opposition for the sake of development—it is not an opposition against development itself.

For this reason, the role of the opposition party in a democracy is of unparalleled importance. In a democracy, if there is no opposition party, there can be no guarantee that development will proceed in the right direction.

Furthermore, if the ruling party’s intent while pursuing development is malicious, misguided, or self-serving, it is the opposition party that acts to rein them in. Opposition undertaken with the specific objective of steering the process toward genuine development ultimately proves complementary to that very development. Conversely, if opposition is raised solely out of self-interest—merely to obstruct progress—then it amounts to nothing more than opposition against development.

This implies that the crucial factor lies in the intent behind the act—whether one is opposing development itself, or opposing for the sake of development. This intent must be robust and pure; only then does the opposition acquire true potency, compelling the ruling party to acknowledge and heed it.

Transformation, change, and development emerge precisely through opposition; they are born out of conflict. Conflict, in turn, arises from opposition. The circumstances—and the development—that emerge from such conflict and opposition constitute true development.

However, the intent behind such conflict or opposition must be clear, transparent, pure, and noble—in other words, it must be broad in its scope. The intent driving the opposition must never be narrow or parochial. Development undertaken solely for one’s own self-interest—to the exclusion of, or by taking for granted, one’s family, society, village, nation, and the world—constitutes exploitation, oppression, injustice, atrocity, corruption, profiteering, racketeering, and gambling. It amounts to a deception of society. Engaging in any of these activities is, in essence, an act of opposing true development.

True development emerges precisely from the internal conflict between good and evil—and indeed, from the broader conflicts and opposition that arise from this struggle. For this process, one requires neither external assistance nor a numerical majority. The bedrock of pure intent is Truth.

Truth requires no external support. Therefore, it is crucial to discern the truth inherent in any developmental process—and, when necessary, to offer opposition and engage in struggle to uphold it.

This does not imply opposing development itself; rather, the objective must be to offer opposition for the sake of true development. This concept is termed ‘Opposition-based Development’ or the ‘Theory of Oppositional Development.’

The Theory of Oppositional Development identifies two primary forms of opposition: the conflict between two intentions or ideas, and the conflict between two entities—specifically, internal opposition at the individual level versus material or external opposition at the broader level.

The clash between two ideas or two intentions constitutes this ‘opposition.’ It is imperative to critically examine and scrutinize the two conflicting ideas or intentions involved in this opposition.

Through such scrutiny, it becomes evident that only the idea possessing purity, sanctity, and a comprehensive scope is capable of generating something truly novel and constructive. This process clarifies the true direction that development ought to take, and simultaneously establishes a precise definition of what constitutes genuine development.

Ultimately, it is essential to attain absolute clarity regarding the true nature of development—its definition, and the specific trajectory it must follow.

It is upon this very foundation that the future of the individual, the family, society, the nation, and the entire world is determined.
