A strong protest was held at Jantar Mantar in Delhi under the leadership of MP Chandrashekhar Azad for the UGC Act and the welfare of students. This is not a rally but a pledge to realize the dream of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. The power of Babasaheb’s Constitution gives us the right to fight.
Article 15 (4) and 15 (5) empower the state to make special provisions (reservations) for the education of Backward Classes (OBCs), Dalits (Scheduled Castes) and Tribals (STs).
Any tampering with the rules of the UGC is an attack on this constitutional protection. Article 46 mandates the state to protect the educational and economic interests of the weaker sections of the society, especially the Scheduled Castes/Tribes, and to protect them from social injustice. …
Article 16 ensures equal opportunities in public services and appointments. This protection of Babasaheb is our biggest weapon in the appointments made through the UGC.
Our message is clear, we are demanding our share within the ambit of the Constitution. If any attempt is made to snatch our rights from the temple of education (UGC), the sound of Jantar Mantar will resound across the country.
