Attention-grabbing
Prof.Mahesh Panse.
The ongoing water shortage and the upcoming pre-monsoon preparations that local administration needs to carry out, and now in the state, elections for 17 Legislative Council seats under Local Self-Government Institutions have been announced.
Candidates from various parties have been announced, and nominations have also been filed. This includes two by-elections and some other Legislative Council seat elections that have been pending for many years.
In Wardha, Gadchiroli, and Chandrapur districts, the fate of one MLC will be decided through voting by members of Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils, District Council members, and Panchayat Samiti Chairpersons.
However, this time, since District Council members and Panchayat Samiti Chairpersons do not exist, the number of voters will decrease and competition will increase tremendously.
In this constituency, the voter count will drop by 15 to 20 percent. In the Chandrapur, Wardha, Gadchiroli constituency, especially regarding the luring away of Savali Nagar Panchayat and Sindewahi Municipal Council members from Chandrapur district, and now looking at the secret meetings being organized by coalition and alliance corporators, there is talk in political circles that heavy efforts have begun from the alliance and front side to strongly emphasize “Package” and “Picnic” in this election.
Since District Council and Panchayat Samiti elections have not been held in Chandrapur, Wardha, and Gadchiroli districts for many years, the District Council members, office bearers, and Panchayat Samiti Chairpersons who lead rural areas will be deprived of their voting rights this time.
In such a situation, considering the Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Wardha Local Self-Government Institution Legislative Council elections, it is certain that the value of Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council, and Nagar Panchayat members will now increase.
Due to no elections being held, 57 District Council member voters from Chandrapur district and 15 Panchayat Samiti Chairperson voters, a total of 72 voters have been reduced from the district.
The fundamental right of Gadchiroli District Council and the 12 Panchayat Samiti Chairpersons of the district will become worthless this time. It is noteworthy that the Wardha District Council members along with the 8 Panchayat Samiti Chairpersons here will not be able to exercise their fundamental right to vote granted by the constitution.
In the Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, and Wardha district Local Self-Government Institution Legislative Council elections, now only 977 voters will exercise their right to vote.
It is said that if District Council members and Panchayat Samiti Chairpersons had existed, this number might have increased by 150 to 200 and the picture would have been different.
Recently, Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat elections have been completed in the state. It was said that those who were elected were greatly cheated. Therefore, experts say that these Local Self-Government Institution elections can be viewed as a “milking cow.”
Moreover, since the alliance and front numerical strength in this constituency is neck and neck, there is talk that planning has been done for a “Package” for opposition party voters and a royal “Picnic” for own party voters.
It is learned that a secret meeting of Congress corporators from Chandrapur district was held in Nagpur just four days ago. And there is talk that BJP’s planning meeting was held at a well-known hotel in Chandrapur.
Even before this, there has been talk that some Congress Municipal Council members from the district were lured away by one MLA. Although it cannot be said with certainty what the pleasant journey of voters will be or how much the package will be, looking at the competition, the figure will be a heartwarming one, which can be understood from the blooming blush on the faces of the corporators themselves.
In the last Local Self-Government Institution Legislative Council elections, there was talk that the package was in the range of 4 to 5 crates.
In the district, people are cursing the Municipal Council administration regarding the water shortage, and considering the arrival of monsoon in the coming days, pre-preparation is expected. In such a situation, it is essential for Municipal Council office bearers and members to be fully present in the city at all times.
Experts say that it will soon be known how many corporators kick away the “Package” and “Picnic” on the eve of the Local Self-Government Institution elections and give priority to public service.
