Pune : In the Chandannagar area, Poonam Moon (aged 35)—a Buddhist woman—had been working for three years at the office of the heinous Advocate Sanjay Sawant.
Deepak Kedar, National President of the All India Panther organization, has alleged that on April 16, 2026, Sawant—along with his wife and daughter—launched a brutal attack inside the office, resulting in Poonam Moon’s death.
He stated that an attempt was made to stuff the body into a sack in order to dispose of it. Furthermore, to mislead the victim’s husband—who was out searching for his wife after she failed to return home—he was deliberately sent to various different locations to throw him off track.
The attack was so severe that the victim’s face is unrecognizable. Approximately 50 to 56 blows were inflicted upon her face. A bat, a sickle, an iron rod, and sticks were used in the assault. Both of her arms were broken. Consequently, Deepak Kedar, the National President of All India Panther, emphasized that this is an extremely grave homicide and that she was killed as part of a premeditated conspiracy.
Deepak Kedar has asserted that the murder of Poonam Moon is a deeply disturbing incident that demands a thorough investigation by the relevant authorities. He demanded that the accused be immediately sentenced to death through a fast-track court. Furthermore, he insisted that the victim’s family be provided with police protection, that her husband be given a government job, and that the family receive financial assistance. Noting that Poonam Moon leaves behind two children, he maintained that the government must assume full responsibility for their education. After celebrating April 14th with great joy, she had gone to the office on the 16th. Information received from the family indicates that the accused is a lawyer who used to handle illicit or ‘shady’ cases. In light of this, numerous questions have arisen: Did she perhaps uncover details regarding some major illicit financial dealings of the accused? Or was she eliminated collectively by a group of five or six individuals?
Consequently, the mobile tower locations and video footage from the vicinity of the office on the 15th and 16th must be investigated using modern forensic methods. The investigation must not succumb to any political pressure. Deepak Kedar also harbors strong suspicions that there is a high probability of the case being suppressed, given that the accused, Sanjay Sawant, is a renowned lawyer while the victim’s family is economically underprivileged.
The accused is an active BJP worker and serves as the President of the BJP’s Legal Cell. On one hand, BJP women workers across the country are lamenting the non-passage of the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ (Women’s Reservation Bill).
Deepak Kedar has posed a pointed question to prominent BJP women leaders—such as former MP Navneet Rana, MLA Chitra Wagh, and former Legislative Council Chairperson Neelam Gorhe—asking: “Why do you not shed tears for Poonam Moon, a Dalit woman?”
The individual who killed her is a functionary within the BJP hierarchy. It is an extremely grave matter that, on one hand, a BJP office-bearer kills a Dalit woman, while on the other, the party continues to pay mere lip service to the ideals of ‘Nari Shakti’ (Women’s Empowerment).
Since both the accused and the ruling government belong to the BJP, no one should attempt to suppress this case. Deepak Kedar announced that the ‘All India Panther Sena’ intends to launch a statewide agitation regarding this issue.
He visited and met with the victim’s family. The deceased, Poonam Moon, leaves behind two young children: a daughter currently in the fourth grade and a son in the ninth grade. She used to travel several kilometers daily to work in order to provide for their education. A firm demand has been put forth that the State Government must provide financial assistance of ₹25 lakhs to the family and offer a government job to one of its members. Present on this occasion were Balasaheb Shendge (Maharashtra Vice President, All India Panther Sena), Jitesh Bhai Jagtap (Maharashtra General Secretary), Sanket Jadhav (Vidarbha Youth President), as well as Manishatai Kadam (Pune City President).
